Home / POTS line replacement
We replace old copper phone lines with a cellular POTS box, usually in one visit. In most cases your existing equipment stays, and your monthly rate is locked for 3 years.
We list every copper line in your building, what it costs you today, and what you’d pay with us. You typically get a one-page report within 2 business days.
On September 9, 2026, Verizon asked the FCC for permission to discontinue copper phone service in parts of New York, starting on or after November 30, 2026, if approved. Federal rules have made it easier for carriers to retire copper, and the copper lines that remain tend to get more expensive.
Elevator emergency phones have to work. A dead line behind one can mean a failed inspection or a violation.
Alarm panels that dial out over copper can stop reaching their monitoring station when the line goes dead, often without anyone noticing.
Copper line prices have been climbing as fewer customers share the network. Your audit shows what you pay now and what you’d pay with us.
Equipment, battery backup and installation are included on 3-year plans. Your monthly rate per line won’t increase during your term.
| Plan | Monthly rate | Term | Included |

| No contract | $59.95 /line | Month to month | $299 one-time per box · line status alerts · upgrade to a term plan anytime |
Taxes and regulatory fees extra. Final pricing confirmed in your audit report. POTS line service is provided and billed by QTel.
Compatibility is confirmed during your audit.
Fire alarm lines have special code requirements, so ask us first: your fire alarm contractor and FDNY rules decide what is permitted.
Send us a bill or let us walk the building. We find every copper line and what it costs.
We install a POTS replacement box that connects over the cellular network, with battery backup. Most sites take one visit.
We schedule testing with your alarm company, monitoring station and elevator contractor. Your licensed contractors stay responsible for code compliance and sign-off.
The box reports its connection status, so we can spot many line problems remotely. This is not alarm monitoring.
Usually not. The POTS box looks like a regular phone line to most equipment, so in most cases it plugs in where the copper line used to. We confirm this during your audit.
The box keeps working on its backup battery for a limited time, and the cellular connection doesn’t depend on your building’s internet service. If the outage outlasts the battery, the line stops working. We’ll tell you the expected runtime before installation.
In most cases, yes. Number porting is included at no charge wherever your number can be ported.
Most sites are finished in a single visit. We’ll give you a scheduled date after your audit.
Waiting means switching on Verizon’s schedule instead of yours, and copper prices tend to rise in the meantime. The audit is free, so there’s no cost to knowing where you stand.
No. QTech doesn’t provide alarm monitoring. Your alarm company’s central station still monitors your alarm. Our line status alerts only report the box’s connection, and they can’t catch every problem.
POTS line service is provided and billed by QTel, a licensed New York carrier since 2001. QTech, an affiliate of QTel, sells and installs it as QTel’s authorized agent.
Yes. Portfolio customers get one agreement, one invoice and the $39.95 per line rate across every building.
A cellular POTS replacement depends on cellular coverage and power at your location. During a power outage the box runs on its backup battery for a limited time only. If the battery runs out or the cellular network is unavailable, the line will not work, including emergency calls, 911 calls and alarm signals. We’ll tell you the expected battery runtime for your equipment before installation.
Line status alerts report the box’s connection status. They are not alarm monitoring, they don’t replace your alarm company’s central station, and they can’t detect every problem. Please test your elevator phones, alarm panels and other equipment after installation and on a regular schedule with your licensed contractors, who remain responsible for code compliance.
POTS line service and business fiber internet are provided and billed by QTel, a licensed New York carrier since 2001. QTech, an affiliate of QTel, sells and installs them as QTel’s authorized agent. Cloud phone systems are provided by QTech. QTech does not provide alarm monitoring.
